The President Welcomes Families of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the head of her previous school, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always ready to support those in need.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Policy Revisions
Officials have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop providing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she aimed to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
