The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
