The Canadian Team Exonerated of US Allegations of Rigging Bobsleigh Olympic Selection Event
The Canadian skeleton team were cleared of accusations that they rigged a qualifying event for the Winter Olympics, thereby denying competitors from other nations a chance to secure their place.

US skeleton veteran a five-time Olympian alleged the Canadian squad of withdrawing four of its six competitors from a race in Lake Placid. The allegation was this shrunk the competition, making fewer qualifying points available. Although she took first place, Uhlaender did not secure her qualifying position for the Milan-Cortina Games.
“Existing federation regulations allow member nations to withdraw athletes from competition at any time,” stated the governing body.

Canada's Explanation
Reacting to the claims, the Canadian federation stood by the withdrawals, citing athlete welfare and the need for recovery. They stated that the individuals pulled had competed extensively that week and the move was “appropriate, transparent and in keeping with both athlete welfare and the integrity of the sport.”
Representatives of the US, Denmark, Israel, and Malta had previously expressed “serious concerns” about the selection system's integrity.
The Athlete's Future
The 41-year-old athlete, the Milan-Cortina Games represent her last Olympic appearance. Her path to qualification remains, the probable US team spots are expected to go to other athletes. Uhlaender is a 2012 world gold medalist whose closest Olympic finish was just off the podium in 2014.
