Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months following instigating disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
