Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
